An Emergency Travel Certificate is usually issued by diplomatic missions, Embassies, High Commission to facilitate citizens of a country to travel when a standard passport has been declared lost or stolen, or is temporary unavailable, and there is insufficient time to process a full validity replacement. It is a one-page travel document valid only for a single journey back to Sierra Leone.

The Applicant must provide a valid identification issued by the Sierra Leone Authority (i.e. Passport (expired)

Applicant must submit the following documents:
  • one proof of citizenship (Passport, identity card or birth certificate) and
  • Two passport photographs
  • Emergency Certificate processing fee of £100:00

Note: Please report missing or stolen passport to the police and obtain police report which should be submitted at the Consular Section. (Note: reference number form police will not suffice)

The Consular Office is open from Mondays-Thursdays, between 10.00am- 1.00pm for submission and 2.30-3.30pm for collections of visas after three working days.

Note: It would normally take two days to process requests for Emergency Travel Certificates. The public is therefore advised to submit their requests at least one week ahead of their scheduled travel dates.
