A Law graduate and a Barrister by profession, Edward Mohamed Turay studied in England, and was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1976. He practised in Jamaica for a while before returning home to Sierra Leone in 1979 where he served as a Magistrate for three years. He then joined politics in 1982.
In 1986, he won a seat as a Member of Parliament for Bombali Central one Constituency. He held the seat up to January 2010. During the period His Excellency served as the Secretary General of the ruling APC party. In 1996, he contested for the Presidency and lost but retained his seat and was Minority leader of House up to the elections in 2002.
From 2002-2007 he retained seat as a Member of Parliament. Retaining his seat again in the 2007 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, he was appointed Leader of the Majority party in the Parliament and Leader of Government Business, until January 2010 when he was appointed Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland with multiple accreditation to Cyprus, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Greece and Finland. He has served in almost all Parliamentary Committees either as a Chairman or Member and was the Chairman for the Judicial Committee for over ten years. He is the Founder and Consultant of Eddie Turay & Associates, a leading Law firm in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He has authored a book entitled Prophecies of a Father which is a biographical account of his sojourn and experiences in politics in Sierra Leone.
